Thousands of Comcast NBCUniversal volunteers celebrated the 18th annual Comcast Cares Day on May 4 by landscaping, painting and cleaning nearly 50 Boys & Girls Clubs across the country. The tradition is one of the largest corporate commitments to volunteerism and service in the country. This year’s day of service saw more than 120,000 Comcast employees, their friends and family, and local leaders come together to strengthen the communities they live in.

In Detroit, volunteers and leaders of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan reviewed and discussed an assessment plan to improve the Club’s technology systems to provide kids with valuable educational programming. The new tech assessment program is part of a larger multi-year effort to reimagine Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan sites as more dynamic spaces that will better enable youth to reach their full potential.

Shawn Wilson is the president and CEO of the Club. He is confident the technology upgrades will significantly enhance his organization’s local impact. “When it comes to sustaining the resurgence of our region, it’s critical we invest in solutions that can positively impact the next generation,” Wilson said. “We are grateful to Comcast for its innovative support and ideas that will empower kids to be agents for change in their communities.”

Access to high-speed internet and improvements to Club technology systems can help members acquire essential knowledge and skills to realize a successful future. Initiatives like MyFuture, launched by Boys & Girls Clubs of America in partnership with Comcast NBCUniversal in 2014, provide children and teens with access to a variety of digital programs and activities that can help them develop vital life skills including problem solving, communication and collaboration.
