UPS

Teens are often one of the most challenging ages to reach in youth development, but an investment in their futures can be pivotal as they prepare for adulthood and making life decisions. For nearly 13 years, The UPS Foundation has partnered with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to prepare teenagers for a crucial milestone – staying safe on the road.

The UPS Foundation

The UPS Foundation and Boys & Girls Clubs of America envision a world where motor vehicle crashes are no longer a leading cause of death for U.S. teens. We aim to teach teens about road safety and empower them to make good decisions as drivers and passengers.

Over the past 13 years, Club professionals and UPS volunteers have provided nearly 60,000 teens with a unique, interactive and educational experience known as UPS Road CodeTM. The UPS Foundation's unwavering support of teens ages 13 to 18 has helped BGCA build an invaluable approach to teen development. What started as a three-year pilot in 2009 engaging a handful of local Boys & Girls Clubs and UPS volunteers has grown into a multifaceted partnership that directly impacts thousands of teens at hundreds of Clubs across the United States and on military installations abroad each year.

Additionally, The UPS Foundation serves as an annual supporter of our signature events – National Keystone Conference and Southeast Youth of the Year celebration. These contributions boost engagement, recognition and celebration of our teen leaders. The UPS Foundation’s charitable support contributes to the furtherance of our mission, work and strategic direction. This funding makes it possible for national staff at Atlanta headquarters, regional service centers and Washington, D.C. Government Relations office and beyond to provide training, assistance and resources to Clubs to strengthen their chapters so that Club staff can focus on the most important thing — the safety and success of its members.

UPS Road Code

UPS ROAD CODE LOGO It is imperative that every generation of new drivers learn safe, responsible driving. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, these motor vehicle crashes account for one in three teenage deaths. For teens sitting in the driver’s seat for the very first time and/or riding with their friends in the passenger seat, wise decision-making that helps them stay safe on the road is critical.

The UPS Road CodeTM program uses the same driving techniques that are taught to UPS drivers — the safest drivers in the industry. Through UPS Road CodeTM, teens are engaged in a combination of classroom-based instructions and practice "behind the wheel" of a virtual driving experience. Each year, The UPS Foundation and BGCA empowers UPS Road CodeTM graduates to share what they’ve learned and advocate for teen safe driving in their local communities. Since BGCA and The UPS Foundation launched the program in 2016, nearly 150 teens have been formally recognized with grants and scholarships for helping to drive change among their peers and in their communities.

Impact on Kids

Through partnering with Samsung, we expanded access to the DIY STEM program and developed the Climate Superstars Challenge. The DIY STEM program serves as the entry-point for all members' STEM learning experience at Clubs and provides youth exposure to STEM through five modules: Energy and Electricity, Engineering Design, Food Chemistry, Aeronautics and the Science of Sports: Football. Climate Superstars aims to encourage youth to raise awareness about climate change and motivate them to take actions that help protect the environment.

Samsung's partnership enables interactive, hands-on learning while providing students with new perspectives on STEM careers and access to the latest technology. In addition, our partnership with Samsung goes beyond our programs and includes cause marketing initiatives that help promote awareness and drive donations for the organization. Through exclusive access to unique experiences such as the Las Vegas Galaxy Studio pop-up with singer Kelly Rowland and music producer and artist DJ Marshmello and a Winter Wonderland video production featuring YouTube star Casey Neistat, Samsung helps expand their understanding of STEM and encourages them to be the next generation of creators and innovators.
