To help young people meet the workforce challenges of tomorrow, they need safe spaces, positive mentors and work experiences today. That's why Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Banfield Pet Hospital are partnering to offer career exploration opportunities to teens.
Banfield Pet Hospital's commitment to BGCA’s workforce strategy aims to inspire the next generation of veterinary professionals by introducing teens across the country to the field through live career sessions with Banfield doctors and pets. Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Banfield Pet Hospital will engage 12 Clubs through a combination of in-person sessions and video tutorials. The in-person sessions will provide opportunities for Club youth to expand their curiosity and receive meaningful exposure to careers in the veterinary industry.
According to a 2020 study by Banfield Pet Hospital, an estimated 75 million pets in the United States may not have access to the veterinary care they need by 2030, with an important factor being a critical shortage of veterinarians. Further, with nearly 90% of veterinary professionals identifying as white according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the need to not only increase the number of veterinary professionals in the United States but also diversify the talent pipeline is a critical focus area for the industry.
