On Wednesday, June 9, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Planet Fitness hosted a Kindness Celebration, surprising 30 deserving high school graduates with $5,000 scholarships. The event which included Boys & Girls Club staff, Planet Fitness leadership and franchisees, celebrated Club teens from across the country for the many ways they have shown kindness within their homes, Clubs, and communities.
The event debuted a video montage featuring the teens talking about what kindness means to each of them. However, the surprises didn’t stop there as Olympian Sky Brown, the youngest professional skateboarder in the world, and the youngest ever Great Britain Summer Olympian surprised the teens. Brown, who will compete in the Summer Olympics taking place in 2021, congratulated the scholarship winners while also sharing her own thoughts and personal stories to emphasize the importance of being kind.
This marks the fifth year for Planet Fitness’ scholarship program with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, where they have awarded more than 125 scholarships to deserving Boys & Girls Clubs members to date.
The event was a nice way to close out the school year and recognize some deserving Boys & Girls Clubs members. The program aims to encourage kids to continue to spread kindness in their college lives and well beyond.
