Change comes in many different forms.

Embracing Change & Discovering a New Passion

Gabe S.As my freshman year of college comes to an end, I can’t help but think about all the important lessons I’ve learned throughout my time at Boston College. Out of all the lessons I’ve learned this year, I have come to value the act of embracing change the most. I’ve found that one of the hardest things in life is to adjust and accept what you can’t control. Ultimately change is inevitable, and there are two different ways to respond to change: You can either reject it or embrace it. Even though accepting change can be difficult because of fears and insecurities that get in the way, embracing change allows you to fully appreciate the beauty in life.

Upon arriving to Boston College, I thought I had my life all figured out; I was going to be a biochemistry major who would eventually go on to pursue a medical degree to become an orthopedic surgeon. Note to self: Life doesn’t always go as planned. But that is totally okay. Embracing change is amazing and something I've learned to appreciate throughout my freshman year. Change comes in many different forms. For me, joining the Boston College Dynamics co-ed acapella group is a change I have come to embrace and absolutely love.

Through my passion for music, I have had the opportunity to give back to my community and also take part in life-changing experiences. Embracing my new family has made everything worthwhile. I am truly grateful for every single unexpected moment and journey that life gives me – whether that is big or small. I have learned to live moment by moment and appreciate the little things. The one thing I am now certain about after learning to embrace change is my passion to serve others through music.

Song transcends language as it can connect people from all different walks of life. If it wasn’t for my Dynam family, my place at Boston College wouldn’t be as meaningful. I have found purpose in the BC Dynamics, and together it is our mission to share the beauty of music to the world.
