Day of Service

Making MLK Day “A Day On”

Welcome Jim

To celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, several BGCA colleagues and I made last Monday “a day on.” We headed south to Tallahassee, Florida, where we joined our friends at the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Big Bend in a day of service.

We started the day taking part in the Martin Luther King Jr. March in downtown Tallahassee. And what an awesome honor it was.

Later, we headed to the organization's Miccosukee Club to give the games room a complete makeover. Working alongside Club staff, members and community leaders, we rolled up our sleeves and rolled on fresh paint, installed new lockers and moved in new foosball, pingpong and pool tables. We also provided training on program development to Club staff. What better way to honor Dr. King's dream to harness the power of service to change the world?

Big BendLooking good, Big Bend!

CEO Lee Wagner and his team are doing great work in Tallahassee. The opportunities the Big Bend Club provides local children and teens to do better in school, serve the community, and stay active and healthy all contribute to one’s capacity to realize long-term success. We were honored to support their mission to generate great futures in Tallahassee; and to highlight the importance community involvement plays in the Club’s success and, consequently, the success of its kids.

Dr. King once said, ‘Everybody can be great, because everyone can serve.’ It makes me proud to say there were a whole lot great people in Tallahassee on Monday.
