Charles Schwab Foundation

Charles Schwab Foundation and Boys & Girls Clubs of America collaboratively developed Money Matters: Make It Count. The financial literacy program was designed specifically to help teens expand their knowledge of money management and learn skills that lead to financial independence and well-being.

Promoting Financial Responsibility and Independence for Teens

Since 2004, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Charles Schwab Foundation have partnered to help teens gain critical financial literacy skills through Money Matters: Make It Count. The program promotes financial responsibility and independence by building basic money management skills and providing an early start for making sound financial decisions. Money Matters has reached about 1 million Club teens, helping them gain the knowledge and skills they need for a successful future.

Money Matters was updated in 2020 with the latest financial knowledge to remain relevant to youth. The refreshed curriculum integrates core social-emotional skills and financial literacy skills with economic concepts and youth development best practices. The program includes the following suite of financial education resources for teens:

  • Money Matters – A classroom curriculum that includes 25 experiential learning sessions that encourage teens to examine the impact of their decisions and behaviors on their future selves
  • Reality Store – An interactive, group experience that demonstrates how education, career and family impact financial decisions
  • $ky – A fun and engaging digital game for exploring how early financial decisions impact financial futures

Money Matters Ambassador and Scholarships

Each year, Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Charles Schwab Foundation recognize 11 teens who have excelled in the Money Matters program and demonstrated their newly acquired financial knowledge. Ten students receive a $2,500 scholarship. The partnership also names a national Money Matters Ambassador to receive a $5,000 scholarship and advocate for early financial literacy across the country.

“Charles Schwab has partnered with Boys & Girls Clubs of America for over 15 years to help deliver financial education to America’s youth through the collaborative program Money Matters: Make It Count. By teaching teens money management skills at a young age, we are giving them the tools and knowledge they need to take ownership of their financial futures. We are thrilled to partner with BGCA on the new Money Matters curriculum and continue our support for this important program.”

Impact on Kids

Through partnering with Samsung, we expanded access to the DIY STEM program and developed the Climate Superstars Challenge. The DIY STEM program serves as the entry-point for all members' STEM learning experience at Clubs and provides youth exposure to STEM through five modules: Energy and Electricity, Engineering Design, Food Chemistry, Aeronautics and the Science of Sports: Football. Climate Superstars aims to encourage youth to raise awareness about climate change and motivate them to take actions that help protect the environment.

Samsung's partnership enables interactive, hands-on learning while providing students with new perspectives on STEM careers and access to the latest technology. In addition, our partnership with Samsung goes beyond our programs and includes cause marketing initiatives that help promote awareness and drive donations for the organization. Through exclusive access to unique experiences such as the Las Vegas Galaxy Studio pop-up with singer Kelly Rowland and music producer and artist DJ Marshmello and a Winter Wonderland video production featuring YouTube star Casey Neistat, Samsung helps expand their understanding of STEM and encourages them to be the next generation of creators and innovators.
