In 2011, the New York Life Foundation donated $1 million to help BGCA launch “Be There: A National Grief and Bereavement Initiative.” The foundation expanded the partnership in 2016 with a $3 million grant to implement Be There at an additional 20 Clubs. That grant also led to a partnership with The PEAR Institute: Partnerships in Education and Resilience. PEAR's strengths-based social-emotional curriculum "Ready, Set, Action," shows Club youth how to develop social, emotional and behavioral skills to help them cultivate supportive peer relationships to overcome adversity, including the loss of a loved one.
Inspired by New York Life’s tradition of service and humanity, the New York Life Foundation has provided nearly $280 million in charitable contributions to national and local nonprofit groups since its founding in 1979. The Foundation supports programs that benefit young people, particularly in the areas of educational enhancement and childhood bereavement. The Foundation also encourages and facilitates community involvement by New York Life employees and agents through its programs Volunteers for Good and Grief-Sensitive Schools.
