Fluor Corporation Supports Efforts to Serve Military Youth

In 2012, Fluor Corporation, through its foundation, began a partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America to serve our country’s military youth, and youth development professionals on military installations around the world, through the Military Teen Ambassador program.

The Teen Ambassador program is a three-tiered approach that gives teens and advisors multiple opportunities to gain skills in resiliency, reintegration and leadership. The three tiers are:

1) the Teen Ambassador Training, held in conjunction with BGCA’s National Keystone Conference;
2) a BGCA-hosted Mentorship Experience; and
3) the opportunity to serve on the Steering Committee, which leads the planning of the following Teen Ambassador training.

This approach creates a development track for teens and advisors to continuously develop skills they can apply across their personal and professional lives. After the Teen Ambassador Training, teens can apply for the BGCA-hosted Mentorship Experience or demonstrate participation in an approved mentoring experience. After successfully completing a qualified mentorship experience, teens can serve on the Steering Committee. Participants at all three levels gain proficiency in sharing insight and newly gained knowledge with teens on their installations and in their local communities, potentially impacting over 2,825 teen military-connected youth.

Additionally, Fluor Corporation supports the Military Leadership Institute (MLI), an annual institute hosted by BGCA. MLI welcomes key leaders from the military youth development community, including Executive Directors, Higher Headquarters (HQ) Military Chief Executive Leaders and Officers, Youth Directors and Teen Coordinators. Attendees have the opportunity to participate in a variety of leadership experiences with the goal of increasing their skills, knowledge and abilities to provide optimal management experience for their staff and youth. These leadership opportunities are customized to meet the unique and complex needs of military professionals serving military-connected youth on installations in the United States and in 14 countries abroad. The executive leadership learning opportunities include sessions on management, change leadership, preparing youth for 21st century leadership, resiliency and reintegration, teen engagement and recruitment, and optimizing the environment and experience of military-connected youth. These trainings have a potential impact of over 203,752 military-connected youth worldwide.
